Mary Magdalene and the other women who were present at our Saviour's funeral on Friday evening returned from Golgotha to the city and prepared fragrant spices and myrrh to anoint Jesus' flesh. They came to the sepulchre early the next morning, almost 36 hours after the death of the Life-giving Redeemer, with spices to anoint His flesh. The woman entered the sepulchre and saw two angels in the form of youths dressed in white, who told them that the Saviour had risen, and they sent out the women, who rushed to proclaim to the disciples these gladsome tidings.
The Church usually holds midnight or sunrise services with the proclamation of the Lord's rising. While we commemorate the joyous Resurrection of the Lord on this day, we greet and embrace one another in Christ, demonstrating our Saviour's triumph over death and corruption, the annihilation of our ancient enmity with God, His reconciliation with us, and our inheritance of life eternal.
