HOLY FRIDAY

As Friday came, Christ was sent bound from Caiaphas to Pontius Pilate, the Governor of Judea at the time. Pilate interrogated Him in several ways and repeatedly admitted that He was innocent, but in order to appease the Jews, he later sentenced Him to death. After scouring the Lord of all as if He were a fugitive slave, he handed Him over to be crucified. And the Lamb of God, "Which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29), died on the day when the moon was full, and at the hour when the Passover lamb was slain. Even lifeless creation mourned the Master's death, and it trembled and altered in terror. Such were the dread and saving sufferings of our Lord Jesus Christ being commemorated today

The day of Christ's agony, crucifixion, and death was deemed "good" because it culminated in His resurrection and the salvation of mankind. The Church laments Christ's death and venerates the Cross. The Good Friday service commemorates the events leading up to Christ's crucifixion, death, and burial, and the Cross is carried around the Church in procession, where it is venerated by the faithful.
